Love is in the Air - Decorations

The event is over now, but here are some of the pictures I collected of the decorations during the Love is in the Air event.

A Romantic Table for Two (in the Stormwind Bank; no, I don't know why):

A hidden away area of Stormwind in which the canals were decorated with wreaths and candles (which normally only show up in the Undercity and Darnassus):

The fountain of Stormwind decorated with Candles:

A small Pond in the middle of Mulgore also had wreaths:

Speed Monkey

When this new video was posted on YouTube I was just going to append it to this previous post with two videos from the same creators, particularly since the song is just a remix of a previous song...
that is... until the monkey jumped on the back of the freaking owl. Oh yeah, you're getting your own post:

Active Date to Inactive Date

I've been hestitating to make this determination, but I think now I can. Here it is, and hopefully I will remember it in the future:

The Event Calendar shows "Active Date" to "Inactive Date."

In other words, when it says an event will run from, say, the 11th to the 16th, then that means the last day is the 15th and not the 16th. If I wake up and log on on the 16th then the event will be closed. Over.

Love is in the Air - Press Your Luck

Essentially, the Popularity Contest portion of the Love is in the Air event is a big game of Press Your Luck where the Whammy is getting your Heart broken.

Tokens:
First - Find an Inn and speak to the Innkeeper:

He or she will tell you about the event and will sell you (through the "Show me your goods" option) what you need. You will need:

  • Cologne or Perfume - 1 Silver
  • Love Tokens - 10 Copper

Your costs may be less if your faction with that city is high enough. Any of the above items will work in any of the cities.

Your selection of Cologne and/or Perfume will determine which kind of NPCs you will give your tokens to, as explained in this screenshot. Also shown, is the fact that the NPCs are not shy about telling you whether or not they prefer Cologne or Perfume:

Once you've found an amorous NPC of the right sex, give him or her your love token by speaking with the NPC and selecting the option to give the token.

No Whammys!
You will randomly receive one of two responses - you will either:
  • Receive a gift of Adoration, which contains quest items AND a few extra goodies, (but you can only receive 1 of these an hour) or Friendship which only contains one quest item.
  • Get Heartbroken (the Whammy) which means you can't give out any more tokens (or receive any more gifts) for another hour.

The Goodies:
Inside a Gift of Adoration are three or so randomly selected items from among the following - In order of Frequency based on my review of Thottbot data (Most Frequent to Less Frequent):

* Conjured items were mailable but could not be sold on the auction house.

Heartbroken:
If you're heartbroken you can't give any more tokens for an hour, UNLESS someone is kind enough to give you one of their "Unbestowed friendship bracelets," which, by the way, provides the granter a +200 Health Buff.

Popularity Contest Quest Items:
The popularity contest has two benefits:
  • Assembling the city level gift packs give you one hour buffs
  • The faction leader with the most "votes" gets Kwee to hang around for another week after the event closes.

To participate you have to collect items from all 3 of the main Horde or Alliance faction cities (the new Burning Crusade cities are not part of the event). Give tokens to guards in each city and get pledges and cards in your Gifts of Friendship/Adoration. Give tokens to non-guard NPCs to get the third city specific item in your gifts. Collect five of each in each city then bundle:
  • Bundle 5 Cards to make a Parcel of Cards
  • Bundle 5 Pledges to make a Pledge Collection
  • Bundle 5 city specific items to a package

Once you have all 3 for the city right click to make that City's Gift Pack. This will yield you a buff such as +30 Stamina, +30 Agility or +30 Intellect.

Do this for each of the 3 participating cities for your faction and then bundle the 3 City Gift Packs into either an Alliance or Horde Gift Collection. There is no buff for putting this together. Once you have it, deliver it to the Kwee near your favorite faction head.

Love is in the Air - Two things I didn't know

First - is that if you give someone an Unbestowed Frienship Bracelet to fix their Heartbroken Status, you receive a "Gift of Friendship" Buff which gives you +200 to Health (This is separate from the /kiss Kwee +200.)

Second - The chocolates can be eaten and you can receive multiple effects at the same time. The screen shows all of them are active, but I haven't tried to test the accuracy of this. (Let me know if anyone has.)

We used to be able to eat multiple pieces of food and recieve all the buffs at the same time. However, that was changed in Patch 1.9.

Food and Drink are now in separate categories, so you can only have one food effect and one drink effect on you at a time. The only effect should be that foods that used to stack with each other (you could have two food effects on you at once) no longer will stack.

There is no Love in Exodar (or Silvermoon)

Bottom Line:
The Love is in the Air event is not taking place in either of the new Burning Crusade cities.

The details:
I was all set to experience something a little different this year by seeing the decorations and "Love is in the Air" event in the new cities. But they weren't there. I should have seen the signs but I had to try anyway.

There were no decorations. And when I couldn't remember where the Inn was, I asked a guard and got this as an answer:

The Exodar Guards were Taught in Stormwind

So the Exodar guard thinks he's in Stormwind. I hoped perhaps the text was just wrong but no, there wasn't even a little pointer on my minimap to tell me where the Inn was. So I took some guesses and finally hit on it... in case you care it's here:

Inn Location:

Don't bother going, though. Because although it looks cool, they aren't selling any of the "Love is in the Air" products. Instead, I think they wanted to charge me a fee to "audit" me or something; I got out of there fast.

Inside the Inn:

I have no idea if this is intentional or not so I decide, well, she's gotta figure out how to get to the mainland sometime. So I embark on a wild goose chase to find some perfume. I followed some random trails and found one that led to a dock, "Valaar's Berth," and sure enough, there was a boat there. I caught it before it left and eventually landed in Darkshore. (I think the Night Elf Innkeeper gave me a discount because I wore my looted Blood Elf mask.)

Colossal Waste of Time:

I bought my goodies and went back to Exodar. One squirt of Eau d'Blizzard later I see that the guards were indeed feeling amorous.

Tease:

So I gave him a token of my affection, which he accepted. And he even gave me a nice one hour "Adored" buff for my trouble, thus preventing me from getting any Gifts of Adoration from anyone else.

Unfortunately, the Exodar have no manners because I got no gift from him. Twice! ('cause, you know, the first time must've been a fluke and it apparently takes two times for me to feel completely stupid for the whole affair.)

The good news (bad news?) is that it's not just me who was jilted by such an adventure. WoWInsider found the same guard bug in Silvermoon.

Love is in the Air - Get Thee to a Kwee!

If you find the nearest Kwee Peddlefoot (located at your local faction head's hang out) and give him a /kiss, you'll receive Smitten, a one hour buff of +200 health.

Faction HeadPicture
Cairne Bloodhoof (Thunder Bluff)
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner (Undercity)
Thrall (Orgrimmar)
Highlord Bolvar Fordragon (Stormwind)
King Magni Bronzebeard (Ironforge)
Tyrande Whisperwind (Darnassus)

If you like the buff then consider participating in the Gift Collection part of the event (more on that later). The Kwee that gets the most gifts during "Love is in the Air" will stick around for an extra week after its over to continue giving the Smitten buff.

WoW, Love and Videos

I had previously shared a video called re: Your Brains from creater "Spiffworld" who creates WoW videos from Jonathan Coulton songs. Interestingly, if you go to www.jonathancoulton.com/ you can see some posts about how the whole Viacom thing somehow caused the re: Your Brains video to be taken down until it was cleared as having nothing to do with Viacom.

Real world aside, today Love is in the Air begins, so I thought I'd throw in some topical videos by Spiffworld and Jonathan Coulton. Enjoy!

Wowio

I just came across this video at play-girlz.com. Wow, that music! I cannot tell you how many memories this dragged up for me. I spent many hours in college playing Mario when I should have been studying:

World of Warcraft Super Mario Theme

and while I'm at it, I don't think I've ever posted this video before: (be warned though, that it I'm having a really hard time getting this little ditty out of my head.)

Off Topic - Harry Potter Book 7

Well this is interesting - it looks like July 2007 will be chock full of Harry Potter stuffs!

Previously it was announced that the movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, (Official Site) will be released July 13, 2007. (Can't wait to see Umbridge & the DA.)

Well the BIG news is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final book, will be released July 21, 2007. Here are links to the pre-orders for the Hardcover and Deluxe Editions.

Sorry, but I'm a big fan and just had to share. I'm now trying to figure out how I can take my vacation to take advantage of these dates.
