Murlocs <=> Morlocks

Just an FYI for those who were as in the dark as me - I was surfing around the internet and was looking at this post of artist M.S. Corley's depiction of horror characters in literature. I saw a "Morlock" and by picture and by name it reminded me of a murloc. I have to admit not knowing where this creature was from and had to rely on my good friend wikipedia to tell me what they were.

Here's the first paragraph:

Morlocks are a fictional species created by H. G. Wells for his 1895 novel, The Time Machine. They dwell underground in the English countryside of A.D. 802,701 in a troglodyte civilization, maintaining ancient machines that they may or may not remember how to build. Their only access to the surface world is through a series of well structures that dot the countryside of future England.

That's what I get for watching Malcolm McDowell and not reading the book. For a flurry of furry Morlocks check out this Google image search. And apologies to all who are slapping their heads right now saying 'no duh, welcome to the party.'

The River of Slurm

We can tell ourselves all we want that the canals in the Undercity are filled with Ectoplasm or some such... but deep in our hearts we know what it really is...

It's Slurm...

You think I'm kidding, but go check out the Apothecarium to see the Slurm Queen yourself, hanging out around Ganoosh:

Easter Eggs and Pop Culture References

I don't mean Noblegarden here. An "Easter Egg" in electronic media typically means some hidden feature in a DVD or game. Like entering a secret code and suddenly everyone's heads are 3 times normal size.

These references to Easter Eggs aren't going to give you a code to put everyone into Panda suits but they do include some great references to pop culture:

Find Lists of "Easter Eggs" here:

Salvage Company

I was running through Orgrimmar and saw the Droffers and Son Salvage Company:

Hmmm, Fred and Lamont Sanford, anyone? Lots of Sanford and Son pictures here.

The fun now is to trace back the names that Blizzard chose. For example, the two Fight Club NPCs were named "Edward" (presumably for the Actor Edward Norton who played him) and "Tyler," the name of the alter ego in the movie.

"Malton" - looks like it's based on Ray "Galton" who was a writer on "Steptoe and Son" which was the original British version upon which Sanford and Son was based. It also looks like a mix-up of "Lamont" which was the name of the son played by Demond Wilson.

I haven't found the inspirations for Dran or Droffers yet.

/dance Trump, /dance!

I paused the TiVo, speechless. Did I just see that?

Did I just see Donald Trump do the Human Female dance from World of Warcraft?

Unpause. Replay. Replay again. Pause.

Yes. Replay, replay, replay, replay.... pause.

Yes, I did just see Trump do the human female dance from World of Warcraft.

Luckily, there are 6 million people on this earth who can appreciate what I just saw. Folks, this post is for you.

Note - I must give great oodles of credit and props to this post from TVgasm.com for the most excellent screen capture which I thought I'd never find (and episode recap).

What is with these Kool-Aid parties?

What
Is
Up
With
This?

First: Elwynn Forest. I had started a human character and I'm running around the newbie zone and I find this:

I think hmmm. Coincidence all these people died in this spot fighting non-aggro Kobolds?!? Can't be. It reminded me of the
Jonestown story where everyone drank the poison-laced-Kool-Aid (apparently it was "Flavor-Aid" - but if I was the Flavor Aid people I'd let the world think it was Kool-Aid too) in a mass suicide.

Snap picture. Move on.

A couple weeks later I decide to check in on a different newbie character (different server). She's jogging on over to Fargodeep mine and whoa.... what is this....?!?

Soooo many things to say about that.

  • Another Kool-Aid party? (Note the barrels nearby.)
  • Remy Two-Times doing his thing Four-Times?
  • Alien Crop Circle of Humans?
  • Synchronized Swimming Practice gone horribly wrong?

  • Quick Note - they were not just lying there. These are all most definitely corpses and thanks to my CorpseInfo mod I knew they were all dead and offline. Seriously, even if this was some adult-themed RP action (on a PVE server) exactly how did you all end up dead?

    So, I am stumped.

Snap pic. Shake Head in Bewilderment. Move on.

Then I'm on a totally different server (again, these are all PVE servers, none are RP). This time on a horde character, in Durotar in the middle of nowhere and sure enough... this!:

    Okay,

    A - the Horde don't play - they don't need your stinking Kool-Aid barrels.

    B - et tu Horde?

C - WHAT IS GOING ON?!?

Update - Here's another Kool-aid party found by another WoW player: here.

    Fight Club Anyone?

Found in Undercity. These two gentlemen are fighting while a ring of other NPCs watch around them.

IMDB Link to Fight Club here.
